25 May 2022
On Thursday 19 May, Kirkham Grammar Junior, Infant and Pre-School pupils celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022. Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking an incredible 70 years of service! In accordance with the merriment associated with such an event, the school was transformed in all its red, white and blue glory. The pupils were welcomed into school by Her Majesty, the Queen, to meet, greet and enjoy a 'selfie'.
In preparation for the day, pupils designed and decorated their own jubilee t-shirt. Each year group chose their own Queen theme. These creative designs included crowns, stamps, London buses and bunting. Through class-based activities, the pupils learnt about various events of historical significance that have helped to shape our nation. These included the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, the Queen's role in World War II and the Royal family tree. During their PE lessons, the pupils participated in a 1950's themed sports day. The PE staff hosted a range of sports that were popular during the time of the Queen’s Coronation. These included: croquet, skipping, hopscotch and tennis. The pupils' special day included planting a special 'jubilee tree' and concluded with a whole school rendition of the national anthem on the lawn. The pupils waved their union jack flags with pride whilst enjoying a delicious ice-cream!
