Last Thursday, members of our RAF section took part in a memorial service at Fairhaven Lake to mark the anniversary of the loss of Sgt Alan Lever-Ridings RAF who was killed in action on 23/06/1942.
Fg Off Russell attended with CWO Zeynali, FSgt Bennett, Sgt Jones, Sgt Butt, Cdt Culshaw, Cdt Bamford, Cdt Leaker and Cdt Dennison.
Cdt Culshaw read the poem 'Our Wall' written by William LB Walker 616 Squadron RAF, and CWO Zeynali read High Flight which was written by John Gillespie Magee, a 19 year old pilot in 1941.
Despite the poor weather at the event, it was well attended and the cadets were well turned out and a credit to both the school and the RAF Air Cadets.
A hurricane flypast and display took place at approximately 7.15 pm and concluded at 7.30 pm to mark the time that Sgt Alan Lever Riding and his aircraft W3644 was officially listed as missing in action 23/6/1942.
