DATE: Saturday 16 November 2024
U12
Kirkham U12’s faced two tough opponents in a triangular fixture, starting with Trafford Schools in what proved to be their hardest match of the season so far. Trafford’s skilful and powerful running challenged Kirkham from the outset, but the boys showed determination, tackling low and contesting fiercely at the breakdown. Despite struggling to maintain possession, Kirkham added pressure when they had the ball and played much of the game in Trafford’s half. Unfortunately, they couldn’t cross the try line, and the match ended 0-5. The team is already looking forward to a rematch in January, where they aim to build on this performance.
The second match saw Kirkham take on hosts Calday Grange Grammar School, and the boys hit their stride. With the team warmed up, Kirkham’s rucking and counter-rucking were excellent, and the ball moved fluently through hands. Their relentless pressure kept Calday on the back foot, with Kirkham scoring repeatedly in an outstanding 50-0 victory. The game saw powerful runs from Harry P, Will Y, and Lucas D, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Tries were scored by Will T, Roo M-H, Lucas D (2), Will Y, Harry P (3), Ralph R, and Tom R, as Kirkham continued to add to the scoreboard. Well done to all involved in a day of hard-fought rugby!

From the opening whistle, both teams showed great intent, with Kirkham initially putting St. Joseph’s under pressure in the early scrums. U15s National Plate Regional Semi Final
DATE: Thursday 14th November 2024
U15
The Kirkham U15s travelled to Lancaster RGS last Thursday hoping to make amends for their defeat earlier in the season. The game was largely controlled by the hosts, with their heavy pack showing some good power, however Kirkham's defence was outstanding and LRGS struggled to make their possession and territory tell. After 15 minutes, LRGS created some space and moved the ball well to their winger, but despite a suspected knock on the referee Irvine raised his hand and awarded the 5 points to the hosts. The number 10 slotted a good kick to make it 7-0. Kirkham then dominated most of the second half and were finally getting some possession and territory. They turned their pressure into points and scored 2 well-worked tries through Kelso and Gillett to take a 12-7 lead at half time. The 2nd half was largely played in KGS' half, but a brave and gutsy defensive effort saw no further scores added with Kelso making a crucial turnover on his own line allowing Clarke to kick the ball out for full time. Next round sees Kirkham travel to play RGS Newcastle in the regional final.
