Image of Kirkham Grammar School Launches New Nursery (2+) Provision

We have launched its new Nursery provision, welcoming two-year-olds into its Pre-School.

This exciting development marks a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional early years education within a nurturing and inspiring environment.

Building on the strength and success of its award-winning Pre-School, the new Nursery (2+) room will be led by our outstanding early years team, which includes three newly appointed Nursery Practitioners.

The provision has been thoughtfully designed to offer a bespoke, child-centred experience that supports the unique needs of younger children at a crucial stage in their development. The boutique setting caters for 10 children per day, ensuring a calm and nurturing environment with ample one-on-one time with the experienced early years team.

The 2+ room will be overseen by our Pre-School and Nursery Manager, Mrs Sharon Anyon, who is a Lead Practitioner for Lancashire County Council in relation to Early Years. Mrs Anyon is also a Lead Mathematics Practitioner for EYFS, and the Pre-School's inspirational learning environment was officially recognised with a Lancashire Quality Award in 2021.

Speaking about the launch, Head Mrs Kirsten O’Donoghue said: “We are thrilled to welcome our new pupils and parents to the Nursery room at Kirkham Grammar School. The early years, particularly before the age of five, are widely recognised as a critical period for cognitive, emotional and social development. High-quality early years education and childcare play a vital role in shaping future outcomes, helping children to develop strong communication skills, emotional resilience, confidence and a love of learning. Positive early experiences have been shown to support long-term academic success, wellbeing and social development, making investment in early years education especially important.

In our Pre-School and Nursery, we pride ourselves on creating an environment that supports all seven areas of learning, from communication and language to expressive arts and design. Our carefully planned provision encourages curiosity, independence and joyful exploration, laying strong foundations for lifelong learning. Every corner of our setting is thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and support development. With limited places available, the Nursery (2+) provision ensures that quality, care and individual attention remain at the heart of everything the school does.”

The introduction of the Nursery (2+) provision further strengthens our offer as a through-school, providing families with continuity of care and education from the earliest years until their children leave Sixth Form at 18 years old.

Parents and carers who are interested in a place for their child in the new Nursery 2+ room can contact the school’s Admission Manager, Mrs Joanne Hunt, on j.hunt@kirkhamgrammar.co.uk.
