Pupil Achievements

Kirkham Grammar School pupils and Old Kirkhamians have been incredibly busy over the Summer break and since returning to school last week.

First Year pupil, Teddy (pictured right) who, in 2022, shared the top spot of the inaugural Faldo U11 UK Championship. In doing so he earned qualification to the World Golf Championship, in San Diego, for 2023. He was one of three representing England competing in the U11-U12 category. The event was held at Torrey Pines and Morgan Run in San Diego over four days. The IMG Junior World Championships is the largest international golfing event in the world, with players representing 56 countries and 42 states from within the US. Past boys' champions include Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Corey Pavin, Jason Day and Tiger Woods. The competition was tough, incorporating the best players within National Teams from all over the world. He played with nine players from eight different countries against a field of 140. Teddy finished mid table, which he was really proud of, playing in the event a year young. He has learnt a lot from his experiences, building friendships and learning about different cultures from all over the world.

J2 pupil, Louis (pictured left), and his pony Malteser, qualified for the Horse of the Year Show 2023 and London International Horse Show 2023 for the working Hunter classes (jumping). This is Louis' first year competing at this level so to qualify for the two major championship finals is a huge success. He will be one of the youngest competitors in his classes.

In mid-July, Third Year pupil, Lilly (pictured top), competed at the GB Open International Karate Championships in Birmingham achieving one gold and three bronze medals. Lilly, also competed in the WUKF World Karate Championships in Dundee becoming a world champion. Lilly entered three categories and achieved gold in team kumite, silver in individual kata and bronze in individual kumite. There were over 5000 competitors, coaches and officials from 31 countries at the four day competition. In addition to this, Lilly is a 'Young Achiever of the Year' finalist at Fylde Active Community Awards, and a finalist in the 'Sports Award' and 'Inspirational Young Adult' categories at The Best of Lancashire Awards. Both events take place at the end of this month. Good luck, Lilly!

In August, Second Year pupils, Isaac, Mia and Tilly (pictured right), all preformed in 'Beyond Broadway' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was a revue show, made up of songs from Wicked, Matilda, Les Miserables and more with their theatre group, Cre8tiv. They all had a great time and it proved to be a wonderful experience for them all. The show was a shortened version of the show they will perform on the 6 and 7 October at the Joe Longthorne Theatre in Blackpool.

At the end of August, Fifth Year pupil, Scarlett (pictured left), took part in the Mid Lancs Medal Meet at Stanley Park, Blackpool and finished in 1st place in the Under 17 hammer competition. Earlier in August at Middlesbrough Sports Village, Scarlett was the youngest competitor in the Under 17 hammer category at the Northern Junior Track and Field Championship 2023.

Old Kirkhamian, Ben (pictured below), along with his cycling partner, Josh, claimed silver medals in the men's time trial disciplines at the World Championships, racing against the Italians who broke the world record by 5 seconds. Earlier the same day, Ben took the silver medal in the junior individual time-trial, finishing just under half a minute behind the gold medallist and 10 seconds quicker than the third place cyclist.

This weekend, J3 pupil, Millie (pictured right), represented Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club at Heaton Park, Manchester for the under 11 girls road relays. Millie competed in a relay team of three with each runner completing a distance of 1.5 km. The team's combined times placed them 1st place in Lancashire.
