On Friday 28 January, Kirkham Grammar School U11 boys travelled to Bolton School to take part in the annual AJIS boys’ hockey tournament. The tournament was organised into two groups of 5 teams.
In Kirkham’s first game, they played AKS and and won 3-0 with two goals from Tumi Milligan and one from James Wileman.
The second game was against Newcastle under Lyme and again there was some excellent hockey in attack with two goals scored by Tumi Milligan. Defensively, Kirkham got caught out on two occasions, which resulted in a draw 2-2.
The third game against Stockport GS was 0-0 although KGJS did create numerous chances.
The final game against Cheadle Hulme ended up 1-1 with the goal scored by Billy Margerison.
This set up a semi-final against Kings School Chester. It was a very even game and took a penalty shuffle to decide it: KGJS unfortunately lost 1-0.
Kirkham would like to thank Bolton School for organising a fantastic tournament and congratulations to Manchester GS who won 2-0 in the final

1st & 2nd XI v Stockport Grammar - Wednesday 26 January 2022
Both senior squads travelled to Stockport Grammar to take on their senior sides last Wednesday.
The 1st XI got the afternoon started and certainly didn't disappoint. From the start, they worked hard, putting Stockport under extreme pressure within the final attacking 23. Amy Merrick and Natasha Hartley-Smith run riot in the midfield setting Jess Cole and Frankie Margerison through on goal. As both the forwards and midfielders peppered the goal, the Stockport keeper made some great saves. It was not long before the first goal was converted taking the side into the second half 1-0 up.
In the second half, KGS kept their momentum with great play from Emily Marsh at right back and Keira Tomes at right midfield. Another goal was converted to leave the score at 2-1 at the final whistle.
The 2nd XI were up next. They attacked from the start with some great runs from Jasmine Schofield and Maisie Bailey. KGS had their chances, as did the Stockport side, but crucial saves at each end kept the score at 0-0 for the duration of the first half.
The second half saw much more attacking play from KGS. Tilly Loggenberg made some great runs setting Phoebe Caunce through on goal. Unfortunately, the team were unable to convert with the score staying at 0-0 at the final whistle. A great entertaining end-to-end game!
